Krell KSA-200S Class-A Amplifier Repair and Restoration

I am about to embark on a Krell KSA-200S Class-A Amplifier Repair and Restoration, in this case for a very good friend of mine.

As many of you will know, the Krell KSA-200S is a beast of an amplifier, up there with the very best products Krell ever made. It is almost unliftable by one person, being hewn from solid slabs of steel and aluminium.… Read more

Marantz SM-80 Amplifier Repair & Restoration

In this second of two articles on the Marantz SC-80 preamplifier and SM-80 power amplifier, we look at the SM-80 power amplifier. Specifically I detail the work required to restore this amplifier back to full working condition. The earlier article looks at work done to matching Marantz SC-80 preamplifier.

Luxman M-4000A Amplifier Restoration

A customer recently brought in his gorgeous matching Luxman M-4000A power amplifier and C-5000A preamplifier. Both pieces needed a thorough overhaul and the M-4000A needed repairs also.

The legendary Tim De Paravicini designed the original M-4000. The improved and even rarer Luxman M-4000A probably also came from De Paravicini’s hand, but nobody seems to know for sure.… Read more

The Pioneer SX-1250 is a monster receiver in the truest sense of the term.… Read more

Thorens TD-125 Turntable Repair & Restoration

I was at an old friend’s place recently, chatting to his father, who is very ill. Neil had always been a music lover and after chatting for a while, I saw that his cherished Thorens TD-125 Mark 2 was languishing, non-functional, in a pile of dust and dirt.

The Thorens clearly hadn’t been operational in a long time and when my Neil expressed disappointment that he wasn’t able to play his records any more, I decided at that moment to completely repair and restore it for him, hopefully finding the fault that had put it in the corner in the first place.… Read more

Krell KSA-150 Amplifier Repair & Restoration

This video documents my comprehensive overhaul and restoration of a gorgeous Krell KSA-150 class-A power amplifier.

This wonderful KSA-150 developed a serious fault at some point in the past. This had been quickly fixed and was sold to me in very poorly repaired condition. Because of this, I decided to completely overhaul the amplifier and restore it back to factory condition, using original spec or better parts.… Read more

Sansui AU-717 Integrated Amplifier Repair & Restoration

I recently restored a gorgeous Sansui AU-717 integrated amplifier. This AU-717 was not running properly and was in serious need of some TLC.

The Sansui AU-717 integrated amplifier is one of those pieces that I just love working on. Sansui designed and built the AU-717 at a time when labour was cheaper. Money went into build quality, parts and layout.… Read more
