The Kenwood KD-650 is 15kg of metal, synthetic concrete, acrylic and computer-controlled motor. She plays records superbly, as one would expect of a deck like this and of course, sonically and build-wise, it crushes new decks at this price point. Plus, decks like this have real vintage cred and audio goodness that new stuff will never have.

    1. Hi Matt, yes these are lovely decks and I specialise in this sort of equipment. My personal KD-600 is coming up for sale but I think that one is spoken for. I’ll let you know if I think of any others that might be looking for a new home..!

    1. Hi, great to see another KD-600/650 owner out there. I can’t say what yours is worth as this depends on condition, cartridge fitted, your local market, service history etc, but these classic machines are becoming more and more collectible. I suggest holding on to it!

  1. I have a Kd650 with the stock tonearm. Does anyone know what the effective mass of the tonearm is? I’m trying to determine cartridge compliance matching and the manual doesn’t given any details on tonearm mass.

    1. Hi Erwd, your comment went into spam for some reason so my apologies for the delayed reply. The 650 arm can be considered medium-mass for most cartridge matching purposes. Cartridges with moderate compliance work well and there are a few I’ve found and fit for my customers that work really well. Measuring resonant frequency with a test record is always the best way to go of course. Feel free to get in touch via my contact form if you have specific questions or if you’d like my recommendations based on having worked on many of these lovely turntables and having fitted many different cartridges to them!
