I was a science teacher for 15 years and worked at a university for four, so I’ve heard it all.
BUT, if we restrict these silliest things to those related to running Liquid Audio though, the best silliest thing anyone ever said to me has to be when a customer accused me of “stealing his capacitors.”
I replaced 40 year old capacitors, some of which measured very poorly, in a preamp for a gentleman I’d coincidentally helped enormously regarding other issues he’d ‘coincidentally’ had with other repairers. Yes, I missed the red flags there, I’ll admit that!
Anyway, this individual failed to realise several points that matter if we are going to accuse people of ‘stealing’ dead/40-year-old capacitors:
- 40-year-old dead electrolytic capacitors have no value
- BRAND NEW electrolytic capacitors have very little value
- I own/stock thousands of premium new and NOS capacitors, still not diamonds, just capacitors
- I don’t need or want old capacitors, all are disposed of, I keep zero old capacitors
- There is no old capacitor black market or way to make money stealing capacitors
- Thieves steal more valuable items like catalytic converters, diamonds, hi-fi equipment, etc, not capacitors…
Ahhh yes, the logic…
Liquid Audio is one of the most trusted and respected businesses in the industry. I’m certainly not going to jeopardise that by becoming a capacitor thief!
