Classic Harman/Kardon PM650 integrated amplifier
This lovely Harman/Kardon PM650 integrated amplifier was donated to me after her owner, Giles, received advice that she was not worth repairing, or not repairable. I was fairly sure it would be a straightforward repair, especially given where that advice came from, and after a few hours on the bench, she is now running nicely again.
UPDATE: Sold!
The issue here is that she’s in average cosmetic condition, hence the reduced price. In keeping with the original owner’s wishes, she needs a nice new home. That can happen for $395, sold as is. Thank you, Giles.

This PM650 is certainly one of the nicest-sounding mid-priced integrated amplifiers you’ll find. Featuring a really good, discrete phono preamplifier capable of working with MM and MC cartridges, plus full tone controls, tape loops, and capacity for two sets of speakers, this would make a great upgrade over cheaper entry level amplifiers.

Features
Courtesy of Harman/Kardon, edited by Liquid Mike
The PM650’s power is conservatively rated. The HCC design means its 50 watts per channel can develop into an instantaneous 200 watts when low speaker impedance demands it. Under heavy loads, when other amplifiers deliver substantially less than rated power, the PM650 delivers substantially more.
The PM650 provides features for serious audiophiles. There are two phono inputs: one for moving magnet cartridges, the other for low-output moving coil cartridges. The MM circuit incorporates a unique capacitance trim, which allows you to precisely match the amplifier to any brand or type of cartridge, assuring absolutely accurate high-frequency response. The moving coil input has its own built-in head amp, so you won’t have to spend more for a separate component.
The PM650 provides loudness contour, tone defeat, mono/stereo/stereo reverse positions, and accommodation for two tape decks and two pairs of speakers. It also features a high-cut filter and two-way tape copy capabilities. In addition, the PM650’s Tape Output selector allows you to record from one source, such as your tuner, while listening to another, such as your turntable.

This Harman/Kardon PM650 integrated amplifier is now available for $395, and is sold as-is.

IsoTek EVO3 Genesis One Mains Power Conditioner/Regenerator
Check out this one-owner, perfect and pristine IsoTek EVO3 Genesis One mains power conditioner! Which one-owner you ask? Yours truly!
UPDATE: Sold!
I bought this unit new around 5 years ago, and have had zero issues with it. It significantly (audibly) improves connected low power devices kike poreamplifiers, DACs and transports. So, why am I selling it? I have too much gear, and I need the funds. I’ve recently bought a bunch of expensive equipment and various other things, and so certain items must be sold to justify all that.
In terms of what it does for the sound, it’s a fascinating question. When I first bought this regenerator, I plugged my sources into it and immediately noticed what seemed like a lower noise floor and a slightly more relaxed sonic presentation from the entire system. I thought this was fascinating, though in purely scientific terms (real rather than pseudo-scientific terms of course), it’s not easy to explain why.

If you’ve been thinking of getting one of these, I have no hesitation in recommending this unit. More importantly, it safeguards your valuable equipment from power surges and spikes, too. All the information you need can be found over at IsoTek.
The highly regarded Genesis One 100 Watt mains voltage regenerator is perfect for devices like CD players, DACs, preamps, tuners, etc. As long as the total power consumption stays under 100 Watts, you are cooking with gas. Quite different from the cheaper passive filters that you see in all the stores, this is an active device – a power supply – a far better way to power your sources.

The Genesis One delivers a rock-steady, regulated 230VAC mains supply with less that 0.05% distortion. This feeds your sources with the purest, lowest distortion mains supply possible, much cleaner and more stable than AC straight from the wall.
The common power boards in hi-fi stores are passive devices and only reduce line noise. They don’t regulate line voltage, nor do they completely regenerate a completely clean and steady 230V sine wave as the Isotek Evo3 Genesis One does.

Some additional info from Isotek (more on their website):
“The EVO3 Genesis One is a state-of-the-art single-cell sine wave generation system with extremely low THD. The system can be used to dramatically improve single front-end components. Each cell can be combined/linked together so that only one input wall socket cable is required.
- Removes both Common Mode and Differential Mode mains noise.
- Dedicated single outlet delivers clean, low-distortion reconstruction mains sine wave.
- Unique single-cell mains sine wave generation system exceeding 85dB of noise reduction extending to zero Hz, running in class D amplification with a linear power supply.
- Internal wiring: solid core silver-plated PCOCC with FEP, virtually an air dielectric.
- 100W of totally clean power for all front-end components.”

The beautiful 10kg IsoTek EVO3 Genesis One (try saying that a few times…) is a current IsoTek product and retails for $4,749. You can purchase this pristine, one-owner example with accessories for just $1950.
How this hasn’t sold yet is beyond me, but then many things are beyond me; I don’t worry so much about them these days 🙂

Stunning Rega Jupiter CD Transport + Solar Remote
Take a look at this beauty. I had this listed for a while and received some interstate enquiries, but no local interest, so I rested it for a while. I’ve just cleaned and tested her again, and she still works perfectly. This is far too cool a transport to sit here in storage, so I’m listing her again!
UPDATE: Sold!
Featuring a top-loading Sony transport and Rega’s minimalist design aesthetic, the Rega Jupiter has to be one of the coolest CD transports from the heyday of the compact disc. This is truly a cool CD transport, just begging for a really nice DAC to pair with.

The Rega Jupiter is a CD transport only, with coaxial digital out, meaning you’ll need a DAC. Rega planned for you to buy their Io DAC, but any good DAC will work well with this transport, be it in a receiver, streamer, or a dedicated standalone DAC.

So why a transport? A CD transport isolates the mechanical and RF aspects of disc playback from the sensitive analog circuits found in a DAC. This ultimate separation of duties allows for the very best sound quality. You need to partner her with a really nice DAC, though.
The Rega Jupiter is a well-regarded transport from one of the big names in British hi-fi. You can read some real reviews from owners here. I love the minimalist design and red LED display. The top-loading drive is a very nice touch. You simply load a disc and let the lid slowly drop onto the disc, clamping it in place and activating the drive.

Freshly serviced, this Rega Jupiter also comes with the original owner’s manual and a pristine Solar remote control. The Solar is a Rega system remote that operates a whole slew of their gear from this era. It’s a super useful thing to have if you already own a Rega system and collectible in its own right.

Try to find a single mark on this Solar remote control!

One original owner and a beautiful example of this rare CD transport, this Rega Jupiter and Solar can be yours for just $595.

Also just in, and just cleaned, repaired and serviced, is this stunning Harman/Kardon PM655 integrated amplifier. I believe this and the matching H/K TD292 cassette deck you’ll find down in the cassette section are both one-owner units. Both were donated by Aaron and just needed the right care and attention to run beautifully again.
In terms of this PM655, she needed what they all need: a chassis wash and deep clean, reworking of dry joints and poorly placed components, switch and control service, replacement of various small electrolytic capacitors and electronic adjustment. That done, she sounds and looks awesome!
This lovely integrated amplifier is in excellent condition and can be yours for $695.

Legendary Perreaux PMF-5150B power amplifier!
Finally, I’m listing it, one of my previous reference power amplifiers, the legendary and sublime Perreaux PMF-5150B power amplifier! More about this iconic amplifier and company, here.
UPDATE: Sold!
This amplifier took over from my Krell KSA-150, and was succeeded by my Accuphase P-360, and then my Accuphase A-75. As you can imagine, I can’t justify keeping pieces like this given the value tied up in them, so they have to go, and sadly, so it is with the PMF-5150B.

Specifications
Courtesy HiFi Engine
Power output: 500 Watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo), about 30 Watts class A
Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz
Total harmonic distortion: 0.03%
Damping factor: 200 (impressive for an older design)
Input sensitivity: 1.5V
Signal-to-noise ratio: 100dB
Dimensions: 480 x 262 x 525mm
Weight: Approx 50kg
Year: 1983

Not much needs to be said about this beast that hasn’t already been said. Five hundred Watts per channel into 8 Ohms, legendary Hitachi MOSFET output devices that allow for an incredibly simple yet robust circuit design, and huge dual diode bridges. I’ve owned and loved this monster for 7 or 8 years.

I have, of course, overhauled and serviced this old girl, fitting new high-spec small electrolytic capacitors and an uprated WIMA input coupling capacitor.

Like so many of these old amplifiers, the power switch failed many years before I bought her, and they are no longer available. For this reason, she is hardwired on, you simply turn her on and off at the wall.

In terms of sonics, I can only say that looks belie how she sounds. The PMF-5150B sounds lush, warm, airy and with almost unlimited bass and punch that you might expect from 500 W. What you may not know, however, is that these are biased in such a way that they produce about 30 Watts per channel in class A. MOSFETs and class A account for the velvety sound these produce.
I’ve worked on and repaired many of these and their smaller relatives over the years, and thoroughly enjoy working on them. They are built like nothing else from this time, a true thing of joy!
This lovely, overhauled and serviced Perreaux PMF-5150B can be yours for $3295. Local shoppers are preferred, as shipping anywhere in Australia will cost at least $500 due to the size and weight of this monster!
